Process manufacturing for the food and beverage industry involves a large number of various ingredients. It's also difficult to predict accurate yields, which differs from discrete manufacturing when it is much easier to determine the exact number of finished products. Also included in the mix are the many by-products and co-products, as well as the re-working of product that is common in food and beverage production.

Food and beverage service is the service of food made in the kitchen and drinks prepared in the bar to the customers (guests) at the food & beverage premises, which can be restaurants, bars, hotels, airlines, cruise ships, trains, companies, schools, colleges, hospitals, prisons, takeaway, etc.

1. Restaurants: Restaurants are places where Food & Drink is served.

There are various types of Restaurants:

All Day Dining Restaurants: They are sometimes called Coffee Shops or Cafes in Hotels. They are usually big in size with many Covers (seats), compared to other Restaurants in the same Hotel. The main reason why they are called All Day Dining Restaurants is because of their hours of operation, as they are open for Breakfast in the Morning to Lunch in the afternoon to Dinner in the Evening.

In assessing the operations of many clubs/resorts each month, I find that one of the most poorly operated, inconsistent areas of club/resort operations is Food and Beverage.  Especially in member owned environments, which are often overseen by a club board, people seem to think that because they dine out, they somehow have some level of expertise that allows them to make business decisions about this important aspect of the club.  The reality is that this is one of the most complex departments in a club to manage, control, and produce a consistent experience.
